About Brian Heller

Brian Heller graduated from McGill University Faculty of Law in 1975, and practiced criminal law in Montreal until 1982, when he re-established in Toronto. Brian is certified as a Specialist in Criminal Litigation by the Law Society of Ontario. He has been a sessional lecturer in Criminal Law at the McGill University Faculty of Law and Osgoode Hall Law School; has taught Trial Advocacy at the University of Toronto Law School, and has been an instructor at the Criminal Law Bar Admission Course for the Quebec Bar, as well as for the Criminal Procedure and Trial Practice portions of the Law Society of Ontario Bar Admission Course. In addition to being a founding member of the Toronto Criminal Law firm Heller, Rubel, Brian has served as a Director and Chair of the Ontario Bar Association, Criminal Justice Section. With a concentration in the area of white-collar crime, ranging from tax evasion, customs evasion, retail sales tax evasion, fraud, and anti-dumping to price-fixing, bid-rigging, foreign corruption and money laundering, his practice extends from defending individuals and corporations to assisting victims of crime with the investigative and judicial process. Brian is a frequent Criminal Law commentator on English and French television and radio stations. He has lectured extensively on numerous subjects including tax evasion, ethics, sentencing, solicitor-client privilege, international bribery, disclosure and accessing third party records. Brian has consistently been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in Canada since 2006, and is recognized by Martindale Hubbell with an AV Preeminent rating, and by Who’s Who Legal as Most Highly Regarded in Investigations.
