About Kevin Westell

Kevin Westell is a founding partner at Pender Litigation. Over the last decade he has built his practice at both the trial and appellate levels, primarily representing accused persons. In addition to his defence work, he is often retained to act as Crown Counsel, counsel for witnesses and as amicus curiae (counsel appointed by the court to ensure the fairness of the proceedings). He has represented clients in Vancouver, the lower mainland, and throughout British Columbia as well as in Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Toronto.

Mr. Westell also practices regulatory and administrative law, primarily in professional discipline matters before the Law Society of British Columbia and mental health matters before the British Columbia Review Board.

Mr. Westell gives back to the legal profession by teaching trial advocacy skills to law students and junior lawyers at programs including the Allan McEachern Course in Trial Advocacy, the CLEBC Winning Advocacy Skills Workshop, and the Osgoode Hall Intensive Trial Advocacy Workshop. He has also presented at many continuing legal education conferences including the CBA National Criminal Law Conference, as well as various programs put on by the Law Society of British Columbia, the Advocate’s Society and the Continuing Legal Education Society of BC.

Mr. Westell currently serves as president of the Advocate’s Club and as a member of the Executive Committee of the CBA National Criminal Justice Section, the Advocates’ Society’s Criminal Law Working Group, the Advocates’ Society’s British Columbia Advisory Committee, and the TLABC Criminal Law Committee. He has previously served as Chair of the CBA Vancouver Criminal Justice Subsection.
