Michelle O’Doherty has been at Bayne Sellar Ertel Carter since she began her articles in 2011. She was called to the bar in 2012 and has been practicing in criminal defence since then. During her time with the firm, Ms. O’Doherty has had the opportunity to work on a number of matters with experienced counsel on quasi-criminal and criminal matters. In particular, she has assisted with cases involving the following criminal offences: impaired by drug, impaired by alcohol, assault causing bodily harm, firearm trafficking, drug trafficking and offences involving criminal organizations. Ms. O’Doherty has assisted on matters in the Ontario Court of Justice, as well as the Superior Court of Justice, including assisting on a jury trial.
Ms. O’Doherty completed her law degree at the University of Ottawa where she graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctor in June 2011. She completed a Joint Honours in Political Science and History also at the University of Ottawa, graduating magna cum laude in June 2008. Ms. O’Doherty has also been a participant of educational programs for young lawyers and has attended the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa fall conference and other programs offered by the Defence Counsel Association. During law school, Ms. O’Doherty worked at the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic and summered at a criminal defence law firm in Toronto. She is currently a Junior Director of the Defence Counsel Association of Ottawa.
Ms. O’Doherty is a board member of the organization Live Work Play and has volunteered with them for over five years.
