Sujith Sutharsan is a lawyer solely focused on practicing criminal defence. Sujith assists and defends any individuals under investigation with criminal offences. At Sutharsan Law Professional Corporation, he has practiced all over Ontario, including but not limited to Toronto, York Region, Durham Region, and Peel Region.
Sujith’s family fled Sri Lanka as refugees to Canada while his mother was pregnant with him. Sujith was born a Canadian Citizen yet faced immigrant struggles as he grew up in a low-income neighbourhood. Living in these communities exposed Sujith to the day-to-day struggled that systemic inequalities create for marginalized individuals.
Sujith graduated high school in 2009 and was inspired by lawyers who helped a number of his classmates through the criminal justice system and decided to pursue law. He completed an Honours in Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in legal studies and Business from the University of Waterloo. Shortly after, he was accepted into the Faculty of Law at the University of Windsor.
While at the University of Windsor, he worked as a caseworker with Community Legal Aid, a volunteer clinic that assists low-income individuals with various legal matters. He was also involved in many other clubs such as the South Asian Law Students’ Association and THE entertainment and sports law club.
Following that, Sujith articled with and worked for A highly skilled criminal defence lawyer, the late Aghi Balachandran, which allowed him to develop skills such as legal writing, litigation, client management, and courtroom advocacy.
