About Ben ElzingaCheng

Ben ElzingaCheng graduated with a Doctorate in Medical Genetics at the University of British Columbia in 2005. He completed his undergraduate degree in Biology from Simon Fraser University. He completed his Juris Doctor at University of Toronto Law School in 2014 and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2015. While at University of Toronto Law School Mr. ElzingaCheng was the recipient of the Leonard Feigman prize for highest standing in Evidence.

While at University of Toronto Law School Mr. ElzingaCheng focused heavily on criminal law. He worked in the Criminal Division of the law school’s Legal Aid clinic (Downtown Legal Services), representing low-income individuals charged with criminal offences. He worked in the summers as a caseworker and during the school year volunteered as a Division Leader in the Criminal Division.

Mr. ElzingaCheng articled with Cooper, Sandler, Shime & Bergman and joined the firm as an associate in July of 2015. Mr. ElzingaCheng’s primary area of practice is criminal law. He represents clients on a variety of matters before the criminal courts, including charges of breach of recognizance, fraud, aggravated assault, domestic assault, criminal harassment, weapons offences, drug offences, and driving offences.

Mr. ElzingaCheng has acted as appellate counsel for the Summary Conviction Appeal Court Pro Bono Program at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Toronto. He volunteers with Pro Bono Students of Canada. Mr. ElzingaCheng is a member of the Criminal Lawyer’s Association.
