While at the Osgoode Hall Law School, Jake was accepted into the renowned Criminal Intensive Program, and completed his placement at a busy Crown Attorney’s Office, where he scored top marks in every category of his placement evaluation.
After law school, Jake articled at the Office of the Independent Police Review Director (OIPRD), which is the agency that oversees and investigates all public complaints against police officers in Ontario. During his articles, Jake participated in several high-profile police misconduct investigations, Ontario Civilian Police Commission (OCPC) appeals, judicial reviews and systemic reviews concerning police use of force, strip-search, racial profiling etc.
All of this gives Jake Shen a special perspective, if not a significant advantage when it comes to developing and executing a devastating critique of any police investigation. He can quickly identify weaknesses in an investigation and construct the most effective defence available. More importantly, however, his vast experience in dealing with people from all walks of life at every stage of the criminal justice process, has given rise to a professional maturity that allows him to advocate on behalf of the people he represents in the justice system with strength and credibility.
