Laura Remigio is an associate at Derstine Penman, where her practice focuses on criminal litigation at the trial and appellate levels. She has appeared as counsel at both the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice. Laura is also well versed in both written and oral advocacy having written arguments for both the Ontario Court of Appeal and Superior Court of Justice in Ontario; as well as conducting successful bail hearings, trials, and pre-trial applications.
Laura received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Ottawa in 2016. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Criminology from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, where she graduated with highest distinctions. She was called to the bar in 2017.
During her legal studies, Laura worked as a criminal division caseworker at the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic (UOCLC). While in this position, Laura represented countless clients charged with criminal offences under the supervision of a criminal lawyer. She was also a volunteer with Pro Bono Student Canada.
Before joining Derstine Penman, Laura was an associate with Edelson & Friedman LLP in Ottawa, Ontario, where she worked as a summer student and articling student. Laura was also an associate at Kim Schofield & Associate, where she was immersed in drug litigation. At this firm, Laura gained experience drafting Charter applications and appeals, as well as conducting a Gardiner hearing. She has experience in dealing with various criminal charges
