Michael J. Donovan is the managing partner of Donovan Law, P.L.L.C. He has litigated in the field of criminal law for over 40 years; initially as a prosecutor with the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office with the Major Felony Bureau for seven years and then as Chief Criminal Deputy of the Yuma County Attorney’s Office. He is a Certified Criminal Law Specialist (State Bar of Arizona) and is authorized to practice in State and Federal Courts as well as the United States Supreme Court.
He is a member of the National Legal Aid and Defender Association, Past President of the Community Legal Services and was a member/Chairman of the City of Yuma Merit Board for twenty-one (21) years. Mr. Donovan is also a past Yuma Elementary #1 School District Board Member of eight (8) years and past Board Member of C.A.S.A.
Mr. Donovan has extensive criminal jury trial experience in all major felonies including death penalty matters. He is an AV rated attorney and was selected for inclusion in Super Lawyers (May 2009 issue). The State Bar of Arizona has awarded him the Mark Santana Law-Related Education Award. He has participated as an attorney/coach in the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services and Education Mock Trial program taking teams to the State Final Four on multiple occasions.
Mr. Donovan was raised in upstate New York (Syracuse) and the “suburbs” of Chicago, Illinois (Batavia). He has been a resident of the State of Arizona since 1961, with a four-year departure for his undergraduate degree at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He is a graduate of Arizona State University College of Law and a resident of Yuma, Arizona since April Fool’s Day of 1980. Mr. Donovan is a proud grandfather of three youngsters, a world traveler when he can get away, and an avid foodie and scuba diver.
