James Murphy-Aguilú concentrates his practice in criminal, traffic and civil rights litigation.
Mr. Murphy-Aguilú has extensive experience in all aspects of criminal and civil rights litigation from initiation through appeal. Prior to formingO’Brien & Murphy-Aguilú, Mr. Murphy-Aguilú was an Assistant States Attorney for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office as well as an Assistant Professor of Criminal and Social Justice for Ashford University.
During his time at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office Mr. Murphy-Aguilú gained significant experience in the Narcotics Prosecution Bureau, Criminal Appeals Bureau as well as the Civil Actions Bureau. Mr. Murphy-Aguilú has presented multiple arguments before Illinois’s First District Appellate court, tried several hundred criminal trials as well as represented the Cook County Sheriff’s Office, States Attorney’s Office and the Cook County Highway Department in civil litigation.
Mr. Murphy-Aguilú received his BA from The University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned the prestigious Harvey Meyerhof Excellence Award for Leadership and Scholarship. He attended the University of Wisconsin Law School on the prestigious Wisconsin Idea Merit Scholarship where he received his J.D. James' mother was born and raised in Puerto Rico and James is fluent in spanish.
