About Gerard Charles McCloskey

Prior to co-founding McCloskey & Barry PLLC, Gerard was an Assistant District Attorney with the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office. Gerard worked in the District Court Trial Bureau, the DWI Trial Bureau, the Felony Screening Bureau, the Grand Jury Bureau and the prestigious Vehicular Crimes Bureau, where he handled high profile felony cases including homicides. Due to this vast experience, Gerard has a deep understanding of law enforcement techniques, prosecutorial strategy and the knowledge needed to successfully defend any criminal case.

Working as a prosecutor, Gerard had the opportunity to handle hundreds of criminal cases, including but not limited to, Homicide, Assault, DWI, Drug Possession and Sale, Larceny, Harassment, Criminal Contempt, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Fraud, Criminal Impersonation, Robbery and Burglary. As an Assistant District Attorney, Gerard had the opportunity to try more than 20 cases to verdict, conducted more than 100 pretrial hearings and presented more than 100 cases to a grand jury.

Gerard has zealously defended the rights of his clients in a full range of criminal cases, both large and small. Most recently Gerard represented one of the individuals accused in the SAT cheating scandal that has received nationwide media attention. Over the course of his legal career Gerard has developed a reputation as a skilled litigator. Due to his expertise in the courtroom, he was hired by Hofstra University School of Law, where he currently serves as a Special Professor of Law teaching trial advocacy.

Gerard received his undergraduate degree from Manhattan College, and his law degree from Hofstra University School of Law, where he was a member of the National Trial Competition Team, The american Trial Lawyers Association Trial Team, the Hofstra Labor and Employment Law Journal and the Criminal Justice Clinic. Gerard is a member in good standing with the Nassau County Bar Association.
