About Brooks De Peyster

Brooks is an experienced litigator with years of criminal and civil law experience, who is licensed to practice in Washington and California.

Brooks attended Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco, where he received his Juris Doctorate with Honors along with a specialization certificate in litigation. During law school, Brooks was on the Environmental Law Journal and graduated in the top 10% of his class. Brooks received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with a minor in European Studies from the University of Washington.

Before joining Archer Price, Brooks proudly served as a Deputy Public Defender for the King County Department of Public Defense (KCDPD) in Seattle, as well as a private criminal defense attorney that represented the accused throughout the Puget Sound. Brooks also worked for a boutique civil litigation firm that handled business and real estate matters throughout Northern California and Nevada.

Brooks has volunteered with the King County Bar Association’s Housing Justice Project (HJP), a pro bono legal services organization that provides free legal assistance to low- and no-income individuals facing homelessness.

Brooks has taken close to a dozen trials to jury verdict, and has conducted over 150 bench trials. Throughout his career he has represented over a thousand individuals facing a wide variety of legal issues from civil disputes between neighbors to large scale felony drug distribution. Brooks was also trial counsel and part of the appeals team on a monumental case that concerned Due Process and Right to Counsel rights of individuals detained for involuntary hospitalization, which is currently pending before the Washington State Supreme Court.

Prior to leaving the KCDPD, Brooks worked on the "Sexploitation" task force, and was trial counsel on a key case that challenged the constitutionality of Seattle's anti-prostitution laws, which is currently pending appeal.

Brooks is a member of the Washington Defender Association, the Washington Association for Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the King County Bar Association. In 2015, Brooks was named to the Washington State Pro Bono Honor Society.

When he is not in the office, you will probably find Brooks enjoying the PNW outdoors, or at Husky Stadium supporting the Huskies (Go Dawgs!). He is also a great cook and loves to barbecue.
