People often ask, "How can you defend criminals?" The answer is simple - my job is to keep the state and the police "honest" and insure they follow the rules designed to protect all of our constitutional rights. Regardless of innocence or guilt, every person in this country has fundamental rights. The minute the system is allowed to bypass or "skim over" those rights, even in cases where the defendant's actions are heinous, those protections will erode for everyone.

My favorite thing I tell police officers is, "if you do your job by the book, I won't have much to work with. however, if you skip steps or ignore people's rights, I'll roast you on the stand....nothing personal, of course." While this conversation is almost always light-hearted and friendly, at the core it's absolutely true.

It's because of this mission and what I fight for every day that makes me love what I do. I've been able to bring my burning passion and ferocious tenacity to a venue where what I'm fighting for is more important than anything else I've done in my life since my military service.

Just as was our mission in the military, I am fighting to protect our constitutional rights, our country's fundamental beliefs and people's freedom.
