After graduating from Saint Martin's University he attended Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston, Texas on an academic scholarship. After his first and second year of law school, he interned at the Fort Bend Mental Health Public Defender's Office. Justus developed a passion for the nuances of criminal defense while representing mentally ill clients facing misdemeanor and serious felony crimes.

After graduating in the summer of 2012, Justus left Houston to return home to the Pacific Northwest. His experience with the Mason County Public Defender's Office has given him the unique opportunity to represent clients accused of committing a wide variety of criminal offenses. He has continued to build his reputation as a tireless advocate for his clients.
