Attorney Shawn Sweeney grew up just outside of Utica, New York and attended Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. Shawn entered the U.S. Navy in 1989 where he served around the world as a Fire Controlman aboard Guided Missile Cruisers U.S.S. Shiloh and U.S.S. Princeton.
In 1996 Shawn began working for Sanders (BAE) in the monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) group in South Nashua and completed his undergraduate degree at Daniel Webster College. He raised six amazing children in Milford, NH and is now a very proud grandfather of a growing family.
In 1998 Attorney Sweeney entered the University of New Hampshire, School of Law. He spent the summer after his first year working for Norton, Parent & Cleary P.C. under a Community Lawyering grant assisting attorneys representing low income and indigent clients. During his second year in law school, Shawn began work as a research assistant for the Hillsborough County Attorney’s Office where he prepared pleadings in felony criminal matters and county civil claims. During his final year in law school, Shawn interned with the United States Attorney’s Office assisting with the prosecution of gun related offenses.
In 2001, Attorney Sweeney graduated among the top of his class from the University of New Hampshire School of Law and began working as an Assistant County Attorney. In the first several years of his career, Attorney Sweeney gained substantial jury trial experience working complex and high profile cases as a prosecutor in three counties.
In 2007, Shawn became a founding partner at Seabury & Sweeney in Nashua, NH. That practice has grown over the years representing thousands of clients and has evolved into what is today the Sweeney Law Group of Bedford, NH.
Attorney Sweeney was a two term NH State Representative first elected in 2012 and re-elected in 2014 to represent District 23 of Hillsborough County. During his time in the legislature, Attorney Sweeney advocated for reforms in the criminal code and court programs including work exceptions for license suspensions, elimination of mandatory sentencing, marijuana decriminalization, and many others.
Along with his service on the NH Legislature’s Criminal Justice Committee, Attorney Sweeney currently serves as the Chairman of the NH Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Committee and is a member of the NH Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. As an ARC Hancock board member, Attorney Sweeney fought for recovery opportunities for victims of our latest addiction epidemic.
