I'm a simple man. Born in the small rural county of Navarro just 50 miles of Big "D" (Dallas, Texas). I grew up in the eastern portion of Navarro County in Kerens. I farmed for seventeen years myself from 1990 to 2007.
My heritage goes back to Scottland in Europe. The family farmed in Mississippi near the community of Atlanta in the 1800's before moving to Navarro County, Texas in the 1880's. My family has lived here since that time. I pride myself as being a "5th Generation Navarro County Resident."
Though farming was in my blood from a young age my passion has always been the law.
I graduated from Kerens High School and started a family. I have five (5) children. Two are currently in the University System here in Texas. I also have three (3) grandchildren. Navarro College allowed me to earn an Associates Degree close to home. When the twin towers fell on September 11, 2001 I realized life is not guaranteed. And I started a "comeback" so to speak with the goal of a law degree.
Texas A&M University-Commerce offered a BAAS Program with most of the courses taught online. Now online doesn't mean EASY. It was difficult but I received a Bachelor's Degree with honors graduating Cum Laude (In 2011 I received the Award for Outstanding Graduate from the BAAS Program regarding my achievements).
Next stop, Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in the Fall of 2006. A country boy made it to town. Man was I out of place, like a fish out of water, but I grit my teeth and got through it. The program I entered allowed four (4) years for me to graduate but I finished in three (3) years. Doing all of this while operating the farm and raising my children, driving 75 miles each way five (5) days a week.
I knew I wanted to practice SOLO. It was a no brainer. I didn't take advantage of on campus interviews or try to work in a prestigous firm. Just started my own shop and hung out a shingle the day after I received my bar card.
In the four (4) year period I've found my niche. I'm a trial lawyer. A litigator. The kind you don't really want to meet in the ring. Somehow I've been fortunate enough to earn success for my clients in jury trials. My record as of September 1, 2013 in criminal jury trials, both misdemeanors and felonies, is 45 wins and 2 losses. Let me put this experience to work for you.
My passion is helping people. I love pulling for the underdog. And I believe we must seek justice. As a defense attorney I enforce the U.S. Constitution every day. I police the police, so to speak, I check their work, and if the law enforcement are not properly following procedures I'm there to call them out.
I will work hard for you. I put my blue collar roots into the legal field. A 16 hour day is nothing to an old farm hand. And that's what you get when you hire Michael J. Crawford. A hard nosed, intelligent, and personable lawyer. The guy you want to stand beside you ... not in front of or behind you ... I'll protect you!
Michael J. Crawford, a dedicated criminal lawyer in Waxahachie, is committed to protecting clients and defending their rights.
